Shakira, Madonna, BTS and Justin Bieber to Headline First-Ever World Cup Final Halftime Show

(WS News) – FIFA is staging its first-ever World Cup final halftime show on Sunday, bringing together Shakira, Madonna, BTS and Justin Bieber as co-headliners in an 11-minute production curated by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin during the break in the Spain-Argentina final at MetLife Stadium.

The performance is scheduled to begin around 4 to 4:15pm ET, depending on first-half stoppage time, following a 3pm ET kickoff. FIFA is targeting a total halftime interval of no more than 20 minutes, longer than the standard 15-minute break, though the organization has not confirmed the final length. The show will also feature conductor Gustavo Dudamel leading musicians from the New York Philharmonic and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela, alongside an appearance from Kermit, Miss Piggy and other Muppet characters. The performance is being staged to support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which is working toward raising $100 million for children’s education and football access worldwide.

Shakira’s involvement extends a two-decade relationship with the tournament. She performed “Hips Don’t Lie” alongside Wyclef Jean at the 2006 World Cup closing ceremony, delivered “Waka Waka” as the official anthem of the 2010 tournament in South Africa, and opened this year’s edition in Mexico City performing “Dai Dai” with Burna Boy, this year’s official World Cup song.

The broadcast will air on FOX and FOX One in the United States, with SiriusXM carrying the match and halftime performance live on its FOX Sports channel and app, offering both English and Spanish-language feeds.
