Marvel Headlines San Diego Comic-Con 2026 as City Secures Convention Through 2030

(WS News) – San Diego Comic-Con wrapped its 2026 edition this week with Marvel Studios headlining Hall H, unveiling new casting news and fresh project announcements alongside a fresh commitment to keep the convention in San Diego through 2030.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige led the presentation, giving fans a closer look at the studio’s upcoming slate anchored by “Avengers: Doomsday,” due in theaters in December, alongside newly confirmed projects including a Ghost Rider film starring Ryan Gosling and a third “Black Panther” installment from director Ryan Coogler starring David Jonsson. Hayley Atwell also appeared on stage to confirm her return as Peggy Carter, while Ryan Reynolds made a surprise entrance from the audience in a Deadpool suit, joking about joining the “Doomsday” cast. Marvel also announced that “Avengers: Endgame” will return to theaters beginning in September ahead of the new film’s release.

Beyond Marvel’s presentation, this year’s convention featured a packed schedule of studio panels, including previews of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” season three, “Lanterns,” and “Blade Runner 2099,” along with new gaming reveals such as Insomniac Games’ “Marvel’s Wolverine” story trailer and Sony’s newly announced “God of War: Laufey,” slated for release in February 2027. K-pop group Enhypen also brought a themed panel and live performance to the convention, while musicians including Green Day and rapper Common staged surprise pop-up performances around the Gaslamp Quarter.

San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria used the occasion to announce a new agreement securing Comic-Con’s place in the city through 2030, citing the convention’s economic impact and cultural significance. This year’s event, which ran from July 23 to July 26, drew more than 135,000 attendees, according to organizers, continuing a run that has made Comic-Con one of the city’s signature annual events since 1970.
