T20 WC mess: PCB decides to set its house in order

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has resolved to strengthen the domestic cricket framework through contract revisions and other essential adjustments.

A meeting chaired by PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi on Monday deliberated on overhauling domestic cricket to ensure a robust pipeline of talented players.

The PCB administration aims to enhance the domestic cricket system, elevate coaching standards, and foster talented players to facilitate their progression to the national team.

Naqvi emphasized the importance of fortifying the domestic cricket structure by updating contracts and organizing tournaments to elevate the level of competition.

He highlighted that top-tier coaches would be engaged to refine talent, with player selection based on performance, fitness, and merit.

Media reports indicate that the PCB has mandated participation in domestic cricket as a prerequisite for national team selection.

These decisions follow Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup 2024, where losses to the US and India led to their elimination before the Super 8 stage.

Naqvi also announced plans to appoint a head coach to mentor domestic cricket coaches and expressed commitment to nurturing young talent to bolster grassroots cricket.
