Slovenia exit Euro 2024 with high hopes for the future

Slovenia concluded their Euro 2024 campaign without a victory, yet they depart with optimism. Despite their inexperience in major tournaments since the 2010 World Cup and 2000 Euros, Slovenia’s young core displayed resilience, hinting at future returns to such stages.

In their tournament debut against Denmark, nerves dominated until Slovenia secured a late equalizer, later proving they belonged despite a narrow loss to Portugal in the round of 16. Manager Matjaz Kek acknowledged the learning curve, foreseeing stronger showings in future competitions as his team gains experience.

Despite their 51-place ranking gap against Portugal, Slovenia’s spirited defense and scoring opportunities reflected positively on Slovenian football. Midfielder Adam Gnezda Cerin expressed pride in the team’s performance, confident in Slovenia’s potential to revisit and excel in major tournaments soon.

Led by Kek, Slovenia’s youthful squad, featuring talents like Benjamin Sesko, signifies a promising future for Slovenian football. Sesko’s development, amid interest from top European clubs, underscores Slovenia’s prospects on the international stage.

Overall, Slovenia’s Euro 2024 journey, despite its challenges, sets a hopeful tone for their future in global football.
