Retiring Anderson contributes to England’s completion of an innings victory over the West Indies.

England comfortably sealed a commanding victory by an innings and 114 runs over the West Indies in the first Test at Lord’s on Friday. James Anderson, marking his farewell from international cricket in his 188th Test, took a crucial wicket on the third day.

Before the start of play, Anderson was visibly moved as he walked out to a guard of honor and received a standing ovation from the crowd. In his second over of the day, he dismissed Joshua Da Silva for 9, claiming his 704th Test wicket with a well-executed edge catch.

Anderson’s contribution continued as he disrupted the West Indies’ efforts, with Alzarri Joseph (8) falling soon after. Despite some spirited batting attempts, including a boundary from Gudakesh Motie (31 not out) that tested Anderson’s fielding skills, the West Indies struggled to build momentum.

Motie later handed Anderson a potential wicket, but the opportunity was missed. Ultimately, Gus Atkinson secured the final wicket of Jayden Seales (8), dismissing the West Indies for 136 runs and securing England’s decisive victory within just seven sessions.

The two teams will face off again in the second Test of the three-match series at Trent Bridge starting next Thursday.
