Kirsten reaches Lahore, set to call on Mohsin Naqvi

Mohsin Naqvi, Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, is set to hold discussions with head coach Gary Kirsten, who arrived in the city on Monday. The meeting was convened to discuss the future of the Pakistan team, particularly focusing on the role of captain Babar Azam.

Earlier, Kirsten had submitted a detailed report to Naqvi regarding the team’s disappointing performance in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The report highlighted concerns about player skills, mindset, and physical fitness. Kirsten raised issues regarding the fitness levels of some players, suggesting that they may not be up to the standards required for top-level competition. He also proposed strategies to address these issues and prepare the team for upcoming tournaments.

Prior to Kirsten’s report, chief selector Wahab Riaz had also shared his findings with the PCB chairman, pointing out team fractures and other internal challenges.

In the coming days, Naqvi is expected to meet with both Wahab Riaz and captain Babar Azam to further discuss these matters and chart a course forward for the team.
