Champions One-Day Cup: Panthers defeat Lions by 84 runs

FAISALABAD (WS News) – Panthers beat Lions by 84 runs in fifth match of the Champions One-Day Cup at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad, on Monday.

In pursuit of 284 runs target, Shaheen Shah Afridi’s side crumbled to 199 all out as most of the batter were dismissed below 20 runs.

For Lions, Imamul Haq remained top scorers with 60 runs followed by Muhammad Irfan Khan with 35 runs.

Shadab Khan and Usama Mir grabbed three wickets each while Mohammad Hasnain took two wickets and Amad But secured one scalp.

Earlier, Panthers won the toss and chose to bat first. Opening batsmen Saim Ayub and Azan Awais started the innings for the Panthers.

However, Azan Awais struggled and was dismissed for just one run, caught by Irfan Khan off the bowling of Sirajuddin.

Following Azan Awais, Umar Siddiq also failed to contribute, and returned to the pavilion without scoring. He was caught out by Sajjad Ali off the bowling of captain Shaheen Shah Afridi.

With two early wickets, openers Syed Ayub and Usman Khan also could not make a significant impact, both getting out for 10 and 11 runs respectively. Their dismissals were secured by Aamer Yamin and Sirajuddin.

After the fall of four wickets, Mubasir Khan and Haider Ali took responsibility, advancing the team’s score with their solid batting performances. Both completed their half-centuries.

Mubasir Khan scored 90 runs before being caught by Sirajuddin off Aamer Yamin’s delivery.

Haider Ali added significant 84 runs to the scoreboard, while Shadab Khan in his cameo scored 37 off 29 deliveries.

Shaheen Shah Afridi and Ahmed Daniyal took three wickets each while Sirajuddin and Amir Yamin each sent two batsmen to the pavilion.

All ten wickets were taken by the pace attack as the spinners Faisal Akram and Khushdil Shah went wicketless.
