Piastri secures his first victory amid a tumultuous Hungarian Grand Prix.

Oscar Piastri claimed his first Formula One victory on Sunday, finishing ahead of his McLaren teammate Lando Norris in a dramatic Hungarian Grand Prix. The race, marred by various incidents both on and off the track, saw Piastri and Norris secure a dominant one-two finish after McLaren’s first front-row lockout since 2012. Norris eventually complied with team orders to allow Piastri to take his maiden career win.

Piastri, 23, crossed the finish line 2.141 seconds ahead of Norris, while Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes finished third, marking his record 200th podium finish despite a late collision with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who recovered to finish fifth. Charles Leclerc of Ferrari took fourth place, with Carlos Sainz in sixth.

Reflecting on his victory, Piastri expressed his joy, stating, “It’s very special. I dreamed of this as a kid and although the end was a bit complicated, I positioned myself well at the start of the race.” He praised the thrilling competition with McLaren, describing the win as an incredible feeling.

Norris, initially reluctant to cede position, eventually congratulated his teammate, recognizing the team’s achievement in securing valuable points. The race saw early drama with Piastri, Norris, and Verstappen battling fiercely into Turn One, shaping the dynamic of the competition from the outset.

Overall, McLaren’s strategic decisions and strong performance propelled them to a memorable result, amidst tensions and pivotal moments that defined the race in Hungary.
