Asma Jahangir Group wins SCBA elections with clean sweep in KP

ISLAMABAD (WS News) – The Independent Group, also known as Asma Jahangir Group, has won the elections of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA). 

In Lahore, according to unofficial results, Asma Jahangir Group’s presidential candidate Mian Muhammad Rauf Atta secured 558 votes, while Hamid Khan Group’s Munir Kakar received 484, giving Atta a clear victory. 

CLEAN SWEEP IN KP 

Mian Rauf Atta made a clean sweep in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He defeated his rival candidate with a margin of 44 votes in the five polling stations including Peshawar. 

In Bannu city, Mian Muhammad Rauf Atta won the elections by getting 21 votes, whereas his rival Munir Kakar of Hamid Khan group got 10 votes, in Abbottabad he got seven votes, 11 from Bannu, 14 from DI Khan, eight votes from Swat and four votes from Peshawar. 

Mian Muhammad Rauf Atta won from Dera Ismail Khan by getting 25 votes, while Munir Kakar of Hamid Khan Group could get 11 votes. 

He also won from Swat where he got 20 votes and his rival Munir Kakar got 12 votes.

In Multan, the presidential candidate of the Independent Group, Mian Muhammad Rauf Atta, got 125 votes, while Munir Kakar of the Hamid Khan Group got 85 votes and the candidate of the Independent Group won with a lead of 40 votes. 

In Islamabad, Rauf Atta bagged more votes than Munir Kakar. 

In Hyderabad, Rauf Atta won by getting 50 votes, while Munir Kakar got 34 votes. He won in Hyderabad with 16 votes. 

PM SHEHBAZ SHARIF FELICITATES WINNER 

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the newly-elected president of the Supreme Court Bar Association Mian Rauf Atta and group head Ahsan Bhoon. 

Addressing the lawyers, Ahsan Bhoon said he believed in the supremacy of the constitution and the law, adding parliament had the right to make laws. 

On the occasion, Rauf Atta said there would be no compromise on the honour of the black coat.
