Xander Schauffele credited a “sense of calm” for his victory at the British Open on Sunday, securing his second major title just two months after winning the PGA Championship. The 30-year-old Californian delivered an impeccable six-under-par final round at Royal Troon, navigating through a crowded leaderboard to claim the Claret Jug.

Schauffele finished the championship at nine-under par, two strokes ahead of England’s Justin Rose and American Billy Horschel. His win marks the first time a player has captured two majors in a year since Brooks Koepka in 2018, completing an American sweep of golf’s major titles in 2024.

Reflecting on his performance, Schauffele remarked, “I felt a calmness that I didn’t have during the PGA. Winning that helped me today.” Despite his cool demeanor, his caddie Austin Kaiser admitted nerves, saying he was close to being sick on the 18th tee.

Starting the final round tied for second, Schauffele navigated the front nine smoothly under favorable conditions, turning at two-under par after birdies on the sixth and seventh holes. He surged ahead on the back nine as his challengers faltered, highlighted by birdies on the 11th, 13th, and crucial putts on the 14th and 16th holes to secure a decisive lead.
