Uruguay defender Araujo to miss rest of Copa America with injury

Uruguay defender Ronald Araujo has been ruled out for the remainder of the Copa America following a muscle injury sustained in the quarter-finals, as announced by the country’s FA (AUF) on Tuesday.

Araujo injured the back of his left thigh during the first half of Uruguay’s match against Brazil, which ended in a 0-0 draw and was decided by penalties, with Atletico Madrid’s Jose Maria Gimenez replacing him.

“After medical examinations, it was confirmed that he suffered a muscular injury,” stated the AUF regarding the Barcelona center back.

While the AUF did not specify Araujo’s exact recovery timeline, reports from Spanish media suggest he could be sidelined for approximately two months.

Uruguay is set to face Colombia in the semi-finals on Wednesday at Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium to compete for a spot in the tournament final.
