MOSCOW (WSN) – On Wednesday, airports in Russia’s Arctic cities of Murmansk and Apatity reopened following a brief closure of their airspace, according to the aviation authority Rosaviatsia.

Such airspace closures have been common since the onset of the Ukraine conflict, often in response to potential or actual Ukrainian drone threats.

Murmansk Governor Andrei Chibis confirmed a drone threat to the area on Wednesday but did not provide further details.

Subsequently, several Russian media outlets shared a video that purportedly shows a drone being shot down in the Murmansk region, though Reuters was unable to independently verify the footage.

The Murmansk region houses an airbase for strategic bombers near Olenegorsk.
