On Wednesday morning, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif marked Pakistan’s 77th Independence Day by hoisting the flag at the Pakistan Monument in the federal capital. He also placed a floral wreath at the National Monument and prayed for the nation’s growth and prosperity.

During the ceremony, the national anthem was performed, and children dressed in colorful outfits, holding national flags, took part in the event. Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem and Senate Chairman Yusuf Raza Gilani were among the attendees.

In his subsequent speech, Prime Minister Sharif wished the nation a happy Independence Day and expressed gratitude to Allah for granting freedom. He highlighted Arshad Nadeem’s achievement of winning an Olympic gold medal as a source of national pride.

Reflecting on Pakistan’s history, Premier Sharif noted that while the country was established as an Islamic welfare state in 1947, the past 77 years have seen various challenges. He pointed to a decline in sectors such as the economy and expressed concern over issues like inflation and unemployment.

Sharif indicated that increased exports would be contingent on lower electricity bills and promised that good news regarding electricity price reductions would be forthcoming. He acknowledged the nation’s successes and failures, promising a five-year economic plan in his upcoming address to the nation.

The Prime Minister advocated for self-accountability and strategic planning as solutions to the nation’s problems. He compared Pakistan’s progress unfavorably with China, noting that although Pakistan was once ahead, it now lags behind.

Finally, Prime Minister Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast support for the occupied regions of Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine.
