WASHINGTON (WS News) – Vice President Kamala Harris urged unity on Wednesday in a concession speech at Howard University after a whirlwind campaign that failed to stop Republican Donald Trump’s return to the White House.

Harris added that although she conceded the election, she did “not concede the fight that fuelled this campaign”.

“I am proud of the race we ran,'” said Harris in a speech at her alma mater Howard University, urging her supporters to “keep fighting”.

She pledged to “help” Trump with the presidential transition, promising to engage in a peaceful transfer of power.

But she added that although she conceded the election, she did “not concede the fight that fuelled this campaign”.

“Sometimes the fight takes a while. That doesn’t mean we won’t win,” said Harris.

Earlier, Kamala Harris called Donald Trump on Wednesday to congratulate him for winning the 2024 presidential election, one of her senior aides said, following a bitter and contentious race.

Democrat Harris discussed with Trump the importance of a peaceful transfer of power and being a president for all Americans, said the aide speaking on background.
