NEW YORK (WS News) – The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Thursday passed a resolution by a large majority, calling for an end to Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories.
The resolution, which set a timeline for Israel to withdraw from the occupied lands, earned widespread international backing.
However, India’s absence from the vote raised eyebrows, marking a significant break from its BRICS partners and most of South Asia.

Critics claimed this move reflected India’s growing alignment with Israel, as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seen as a close ally of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Political analysts argued that India’s failure to be present is not an act of neutrality, but a strategic decision driven by domestic policies under the BJP government, which has been accused of purposely undermining Muslim interests.
This stance, they suggested, damaged India’s credibility as a reliable partner in the Arab world and cast doubt on its commitment to international justice and human rights.
