‘In football everything is possible’: Robert Lewandowski on Poland’s aim to defy the odds at Euro 2024

Lewandowski’s team endured a tumultuous qualifying campaign, marked by the dismissal of head coach Fernando Santos and the appointment of Micha Probers, Poland’s fifth coach in three years, midway through. Despite winning only three of eight qualifying games and finishing third in their group, Poland secured their place in the finals after a tense playoff victory against Wales.

Expectations for Poland at Euro 2024 are modest, yet the team’s “free hit” mentality might just be the catalyst for a surprising performance. With the support of a passionate fanbase expected to travel to Germany for the tournament, Lewandowski emphasizes the importance of seizing every opportunity.

“In major tournaments, unexpected challenges can arise, and we must be prepared to capitalize on our chances to secure victories and points,” he remarked. “Given our proximity to Germany, where the tournament is held, we anticipate a strong showing from Polish fans.
