ICC Men’s Player of the Month nominees for June 2024 named

Three contenders are in contention for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award, including two champions from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 and a promising talent from Afghanistan.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz (Afghanistan)

Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Afghanistan’s opener, played a pivotal role in his team’s campaign, which saw them reach their first-ever semi-final in the tournament. Gurbaz topped the batting charts with 281 runs, achieving a solid strike rate of 124.33 and an average of 35.12. His contributions, notably an 80 against New Zealand and a crucial 60 against Australia, were instrumental in key victories for Afghanistan, providing strong starts alongside Ibrahim Zadran.

Rohit Sharma (India)

Rohit Sharma not only led India to victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after an 11-year wait but also excelled individually as an opener. He emerged as the tournament’s second-highest run-scorer with 257 runs, boasting an average of 36.71 and an impressive strike rate of 156.7. Notable performances include a blazing 92 against Australia and a vital 57 against England in the semi-final, showcasing his leadership and batting prowess throughout the competition.

Jasprit Bumrah (India)

Jasprit Bumrah played a crucial role with the ball for India throughout the tournament, delivering impactful performances whenever called upon by captain Rohit Sharma. Bumrah took 15 wickets in eight matches at an exceptional average of 8.26 and an economy rate of 4.17. His contributions were pivotal in key matches against Pakistan, South Africa in the final, and several other crucial encounters, earning him the Player of the Tournament award.

These players have demonstrated outstanding performances on the global stage, making them strong contenders for the prestigious ICC Men’s Player of the Month accolade.
