Free Wi-Fi service expanded to 230 locations in Punjab

LAHORE (WS News) – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has extended the scope of free Wi-Fi service across the province. 

The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) spokesperson said free Wi-Fi service had been launched on 230 locations in Lahore, Kasur, Nankana Sahib and Sheikhupura. 

The PSCA spokesperson stated that free Wi-Fi service was being provided at 200 locations of Lahore, 10 points in Kasur, 15 Sheikupura and five in Nankana Sahib. 

Around 7.7 million users used 111 TB data in three months under the service. 

The spokesperson said the free internet service was providing assistance to citizens in education, business and social communication.

Punjab is being made a digital province and free Wi-Fi service is a crucial step in this direction. 

Citizens are being facilitated with free Wi-Fi service to make their life easy. 

Initially, the service was launched in Lahore at 50 spots under a pilot project. 

The PML-N previously introduced free Wi-Fi services in Lahore and other cities during its government in 2013. However, the provision of this service was halted by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) during its government. 

The responsibility for the free service was assigned to the provincial technology board, PITB.
