LAHORE (WS News) – Social media services, including WhatsApp and Instagram, were hit by outage in Pakistan on Saturday with people also facing disruption in internet services.

Data available on DownDetector website shows Instagram and WhatsApp users have reported outage. Furthermore, users of various internet service providers also experienced interruption.

WhatsApp users are unable to send their voice messages through the app while using the mobile internet.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is yet to issue an official statement in this regard.

Last month, the authority said internet services would remain slow across the country till October as repairing of a submarine cable is underway.

“The ongoing internet slowdown across the country is mainly due to [a] fault in two (SMW4, AAE-1) of the seven international submarine cables connecting Pakistan internationally,” the PTA had said in a statement.

“It is updated that [the] fault in SMW-4 submarine cable is likely to be repaired by early October 2024,” It had added. “Submarine cable AAE-1 has been repaired which may improve internet experience.”
