ISLAMABAD (WSN) – On Tuesday, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) submitted a new Toshakhana reference against the imprisoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan and former first lady Bushra Bibi.
The reference was filed by investigation officer Moshin Haroon and case officer Waqarul Hassan in an Islamabad accountability court. This latest Toshakhana reference comprises two volumes.
The registrar of the accountability court will review the reference before forwarding it to the administrative judge, who will determine whether the case will be heard by his court or transferred to another.
Previously, Nasir Javed Rana was handling a case related to 190 million pounds, leading to the arrest of Khan and his wife on July 13. They were detained by NAB for 37 days.
IHC Prevents Final Verdict in 190 Million Pounds Case
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has blocked the trial court from delivering a final verdict in the 190 million pounds case at Khan’s request. A division bench, including Justice Babar Sattar and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, reviewed the case amidst objections from the Registrar’s Office.
Counsel for the petitioner, Barrister Salman Safdar and Khalid Yousuf Chaudhry, presented their case, arguing that 35 witnesses had testified, with the final witness still being questioned. They noted that Khan was arrested on the IHC premises in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust (190 million pounds) case.
The petition claimed that NAB initially charged eight individuals. Barrister Salman stated that NAB alleged the NCA seized 190 million pounds, asserting that Khan, while serving as prime minister, facilitated the transfer of these funds, which ended up in the Supreme Court’s account rather than the State Bank of Pakistan.
Salman Safdar mentioned that they had requested records of NAB’s executive board meetings from the trial court, but the request was denied. He described the trial judge’s reasons for the denial as surprising.
The court has issued a notice to NAB, requesting a response by August 20.
On August 16, former prime minister Imran Khan approached the IHC to halt the trial in the 190 million pounds case.
