Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez, both prominent players for Inter Miami, will be absent from the MLS All-Star Game.

Inter Miami’s star player Lionel Messi will sit out the MLS All-Star Game due to an ongoing ankle injury. The 37-year-old Argentine sustained the injury during the Copa America final on July 14. His teammate Luis Suárez is also sidelined for the upcoming game in Columbus, Ohio, due to knee discomfort, as confirmed by the team.

Both Messi and Suárez were listed as unavailable by the league on Monday. Messi, a record eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, has already missed recent matches against Toronto FC and the Chicago Fire for Inter Miami. The club indicated that their availability for Saturday’s Leagues Cup match against Puebla will depend on their daily recovery progress.

The MLS All-Star Game features top players from MLS clubs facing off against counterparts from Mexico’s Liga MX. Despite Messi and Suárez’s absence, Inter Miami will still be represented by Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba in Wednesday night’s fixture.

In addition to Messi and Suárez, Real Salt Lake’s Cristian Arango will also miss the All-Star Game due to a four-game suspension imposed by Major League Soccer for violating the league’s anti-harassment policy. Arango leads MLS with 17 goals and 11 assists this season.
