American Townsend clinches the Wimbledon doubles title partnering with Siniakova.

American Taylor Townsend secured her maiden Grand Slam title by partnering with Czech player Katerina Siniakova to defeat Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski and New Zealand’s Erin Routliffe in the Wimbledon women’s doubles final on Saturday.

In a match played under the Centre Court roof amid darkness at the All England Club, Townsend and Siniakova triumphed 7-6(5) 7-6(1), marking only their 10th match together as a doubles team.

Townsend had previously reached the finals of the U.S. Open in 2022 and the French Open last year, experiencing defeat both times. This victory alongside Siniakova, who now boasts nine doubles Grand Slam titles, was especially meaningful for the 28-year-old Townsend, who became a mother in 2021.

Following the match’s conclusion with a double-fault from their opponents, Townsend expressed her gratitude and emotions on court, highlighting her partnership with Siniakova.

“This has been an incredible journey teaming up with Katerina,” Townsend remarked. “I remember facing her in my first Grand Slam final where she outplayed me, so it’s wonderful to be on the same side of the net this time. These past few weeks have been amazing, and crossing the finish line means a lot to me.”

While Routliffe, who had previously won the U.S. Open doubles title with Dabrowski, reached her first Wimbledon final and achieved the number one ranking in women’s doubles, she reflected on the emotional intensity of Wimbledon matches.

“This was my debut Wimbledon final, and I hope it won’t be my last,” Routliffe shared on court. “There’s something about Wimbledon that makes every match so emotionally charged.”

Siniakova, who previously won two Wimbledon doubles titles with Barbora Krejcikova, also celebrated their victory alongside Krejcikova’s singles triumph earlier on Centre Court.

“I’m incredibly proud of Barbora, and I’m thrilled that we could achieve this together,” the 28-year-old Siniakova expressed.
