James Anderson reflects proudly on the conclusion of his illustrious career, describing it as the culmination of “the best job in the world.”

England’s esteemed cricketer James Anderson expressed deep pride as he concluded his remarkable Test career with a resounding victory over the West Indies at Lord’s. In his final appearance before retirement, the 41-year-old bowler delivered a typically economical performance, taking 3-32 in 16 overs as England dismissed the West Indies for just 136 runs, sealing a win by an innings and 114 runs within three days.

Having agreed with selectors that this series opener would mark his farewell from international cricket, Anderson now transitions to mentoring England’s fast bowlers for the remainder of the season. His illustrious career spans 188 Tests, during which he claimed a remarkable 704 wickets, ranking behind only spinners Shane Warne (708) and Muttiah Muralitharan (800) in Test cricket history. Only Sachin Tendulkar, with 200 Test appearances, surpasses Anderson in terms of matches played.

Reflecting on his emotional final match, Anderson shared with Sky Sports, “It’s been quite an amazing week… I’m just proud of what I’ve achieved.” Recalling his debut at Lord’s against Zimbabwe in 2003, he added, “Playing for 20-odd years is an incredible effort, especially for a fast bowler, so I’m just happy that I’ve made it this far.”

Acknowledging the privilege of representing England, Anderson described it as “the best job in the world,” expressing gratitude for remaining mostly injury-free throughout his career.

England captain Ben Stokes praised Anderson’s legacy, describing him as “an incredible inspiration” and lauding his phenomenal record of games and wickets. Debutant fast bowler Gus Atkinson, who claimed 12 wickets in the match, noted the impact Anderson had on his career, stating, “Growing up Jimmy was someone I would come to Lord’s and watch.”

West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite summed up Anderson’s stature in the game, acknowledging him as “a legend” while humorously adding, “I won’t miss him at all!”
