Uruguay defender Araujo to miss rest of Copa America with injury

Uruguay’s Ronald Araujo will sit out the rest of the Copa America following a muscle injury he sustained during the quarter-finals, announced the country’s FA (AUF) on Tuesday.

Araujo injured the back of his left thigh in the first half of Uruguay’s match against Brazil, which ended in a goalless draw and went to penalties, where his team emerged victorious. Atletico Madrid’s Jose Maria Gimenez took Araujo’s place on the field.

Confirming the nature of the injury, the AUF described it as a muscular issue affecting the Barcelona defender. While no specific details on Araujo’s recovery timeline were provided by the AUF, Spanish media reports suggested he might be out of action for up to two months.

Uruguay will confront Colombia on Wednesday at Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium, battling for a spot in the tournament final.
