Holder has ‘renewed energy’ for England after Windies’ success in Australia

West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder enters this week’s first Test against England at Lord’s with confidence, buoyed by the team’s success in Australia earlier this year, despite his absence from that tour. Holder chose to play in the ILT20 in the UAE to prepare for the T20 World Cup, a decision reflecting the challenges faced by cricketers juggling international commitments and lucrative franchise leagues.

Speaking to reporters at Lord’s, Holder acknowledged the complexities surrounding player schedules and the decisions some players from other nations have made regarding central contracts. Reflecting on his team’s impressive performance in Australia, he expressed happiness for the squad’s achievements in his absence, particularly their historic Test victory.

“I missed Test cricket,” Holder admitted, emphasizing his excitement to return to the format after a prolonged absence. He recently prepared for the England series with Worcestershire, describing the experience as rejuvenating and appreciating the camaraderie within the team.

Looking ahead to the series against England, Holder expressed optimism and a desire to break the trend of home side dominance in recent encounters. He believes in the potential of the West Indies squad and hopes to contribute to something special in the upcoming matches at Lord’s.
