Ecstatic fans receive invincible Indian team with smiles and tears

India’s victorious T20 World Cup team returned home to a rapturous welcome, greeted by throngs of enthusiastic fans. The unbeaten squad, delayed by Hurricane Beryl, finally landed at New Delhi airport amid chants of “India, India.” They acknowledged the cheers, danced to live music, and interacted with supporters before meeting Prime Minister Modi at his residence.

Sporting “Champions” emblazoned Indian jerseys, the team posed for photos with Modi, who also engaged them in a discussion. Later, they proceeded to Mumbai for a celebratory open-topped bus parade through the city’s financial district, concluding at Wankhede Stadium.

Earlier that morning, fans braved monsoon rain at the airport, eagerly awaiting the team’s arrival adorned with gold medals from their victory over South Africa in Barbados. Emotions ran high among supporters like Rohit Khanna, who described witnessing the World Cup win as surreal and unforgettable, surpassing even the 2011 triumph.

Vice-captain Hardik Pandya led the way, followed by captain Rohit carrying the gleaming trophy, which he proudly displayed to the roaring crowd. Delhi-born Virat Kohli received some of the loudest cheers as he acknowledged the hundreds of fans gathered.

For many fans, the return marked a dream come true, celebrating India’s first global cricket trophy in 11 years since the 2013 Champions Trophy. The victory also signified a poignant moment as star players like Rohit, Kohli, and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from T20 international cricket following the final.

The special Air India charter carrying the team became the most tracked flight on Flightradar24, reflecting the widespread excitement and anticipation surrounding their return from the Caribbean.
