Murray to team up with Raducanu in Wimbledon mixed doubles

Andy Murray and fellow Briton Emma Raducanu have been granted a wildcard entry into the Wimbledon mixed doubles tournament, as confirmed by organizers on Wednesday.

Murray, a two-time singles champion at Wimbledon and aged 37, is participating in his final Wimbledon. However, he withdrew from his singles match against Tomas Machac due to a back issue.

In addition to his singles setback, Murray is pairing up with his brother Jamie in the men’s doubles event, where they are scheduled to face Australians Rinky Hijikata and John Peers in their opening match on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Emma Raducanu, the former U.S. Open champion aged 21, won her singles opener against Renata Zarazua and is set to play Elise Mertens later the same day.

Murray’s last mixed doubles appearance at Wimbledon was in 2019, when he partnered with Serena Williams and they reached the third round.

The three-time Grand Slam champion Murray, whose career was rejuvenated following hip-resurfacing surgery in 2019, has hinted that he may retire from professional tennis after this year, possibly culminating at the Paris Olympics. The tennis competition at the Olympics is scheduled to commence on July 27.
